In short: She was cast to change a villain's ways and intended to leave after a single storyline. Yet, Tina McIntyre became a cornerstone of Coronation Street, navigating complex dramas from surrogacy to murder, proving that even the most transient characters can leave an indelible mark on television history.

When Michelle Keegan first appeared on screen on 7 January 2008, her character, Tina McIntyre, was designed for a limited purpose: to act as a catalyst for the redemption of David Platt. The plan was for Tina to be a short-term girlfriend whose presence would soften David's 'evil ways.' However, the chemistry between the actress and the role, combined with the character's 'feisty' and 'ballsy' personality, led producers to transform her into a permanent fixture of the cobbles.

Over her six-year tenure, Tina's life was defined by intense, high-stakes narratives. She navigated the emotional complexities of a teenage abortion, the legal tensions of refusing to commit perjury, and the profound trauma of discovering her father, Joe, had faked his death to claim life insurance. Her personal life was a revolving door of turbulent relationships, including stints with Jason Grimshaw, Tommy Duckworth, and a controversial affair with the married Peter Barlow.

Tina's journey also touched on significant social themes, such as the ethics of surrogacy. She agreed to carry a baby for Gary and Izzy Armstrong to help settle debts, a decision that eventually led to a bitter dispute over the child's future. This period of her life showcased her vulnerability and her capacity for self-sacrifice, even as she faced eviction and social isolation.

The character's arc concluded in a violent tragedy. In October 2013, it was announced that Tina would be murdered. Rob Donovan caused her death by striking her with a lead pipe and shoving her off a balcony. She died from her injuries on 2 June 2014, marking the end of a character that The Guardian had previously recognized as one of the best in the show's history.
