How a Thai Actress Balanced a Dentistry Degree With International Stardom
In short: Tontawan Tantivejakul is a rare breed of celebrity who managed to graduate with a degree in dentistry while simultaneously headlining major television series and luxury fashion campaigns. Her journey from a 19-year-old music video extra to an international star reveals the intense discipline required to navigate two demanding worlds.
Born in Bangkok in 2000, Tontawan Tantivejakul—known to fans as Tu—grew up in a family deeply embedded in communication and advertising. Despite her early exposure to the entertainment industry, she pursued a rigorous academic path, attending the Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School before enrolling in the university's dentistry program. This academic commitment remained a constant, even as her career trajectory shifted dramatically following her 2020 signing with GMMTV.
Her breakthrough came in 2021 with the lead role of Gorya in F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers, an adaptation of the Japanese manga Hana Yori Dango. The series brought her global recognition and best actress awards, yet she continued to balance her studies with professional obligations. During her time as a dental student, she took on roles in projects like the romance anthology Magic of Zero and the fantasy series Midnight Museum, often scheduling guest appearances around her clinical training.
By 2024, Tontawan had successfully transitioned into film with the box office hit How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, while simultaneously serving as a brand ambassador for major luxury houses like Dior and Puma Thailand. Her ability to maintain this dual identity culminated in 2025, when she officially graduated with a degree in dentistry, earning second class honours. This achievement highlights a deliberate, disciplined approach to fame that contrasts with the typical trajectory of young stars, proving that high-profile acting and professional medical training can coexist with careful management.
