Triplemanía XXXIII: A historic collision between AAA and WWE
In short: When the giants of professional wrestling converge, history is made. Triplemanía XXXIII marked a transformative milestone for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, serving as the first flagship event held following WWE's strategic acquisition of the promotion through a joint venture.
On August 16, 2025, Arena CDMX in Mexico City hosted Triplemanía XXXIII, marking a major turning point for professional wrestling. It was the first event organized under the new ownership structure following WWE's August 1, 2025, deal to acquire AAA via a joint venture with the Mexican company Fillip. This 47th overall show under the Triplemanía banner represents a significant evolution for the brand. The venue, Arena Ciudad de México, accommodates up to 22,300 spectators. It is located in the Azcapotzalco district of Mexico City. This specific iteration follows a long history of hosting events at this indoor arena since 2012.
The event featured seven matches, blending the established storylines of AAA with talent from WWE's Raw, SmackDown, and NXT divisions. The spectacle was broadcast live on WWE's YouTube channel with commentary in both English and Spanish, a move announced by WWE's Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque on July 26, 2025. This international reach highlighted the growing integration of Mexican Lucha Libre into the global WWE ecosystem.
The card was defined by high-stakes competition and complex narratives. In the main event, El Hijo del Vikingo successfully defended the AAA Mega Championship in a four-way match against Dominik Mysterio, Dragon Lee, and El Grande Americano, aided by interference from AJ Styles. Other notable results included Pagano and Psycho Clown winning the AAA World Tag Team Championship in a Street Fight against Los Garza (Berto and Angel), and Omos winning the Copa Bardahl match in the opening bout.
