Wrestling giants collide as WWE and AAA unite for a massive livestream event
In short: In June 2025, professional wrestling saw a historic crossover. WWE and Mexico's AAA Worldwide joined forces for Worlds Collide: Los Angeles, a supercard that shattered viewership records on YouTube. This massive event bridged the gap between major promotions, featuring talent from TNA alongside stars from WWE and AAA.
Taking place at California's Kia Forum in Inglewood on June 7, 2025, Worlds Collide: Los Angeles acted as a high-stakes meeting point for various wrestling worlds. Scheduled for the day before the primary show, this event belonged to the 2025 Money in the Bank weekend. While the collaboration between WWE and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide was the centerpiece, the show also integrated talent from Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), including Octagón Jr. and Laredo Kid.
The event arrived during a period of significant corporate transition. In April 2025, WWE signed a letter of intent to acquire AAA, a deal they expected to close in the third quarter of 2025. By the time the event concluded, WWE had officially announced the acquisition during a Countdown to WrestleMania 41 Saturday show. This marked the first time WWE had featured AAA wrestlers in an event since the 1997 Royal Rumble, and the first Worlds Collide event since 2022.
The supercard consisted of five matches driven by intricate, scripted storylines. El Hijo del Vikingo kept the AAA Mega Championship by beating Chad Gable in the main event. Other major outcomes saw Ethan Page retain his NXT North American Championship by winning a fatal four-way against Rey Fénix, Laredo Kid, and Je'Von Evans. The broadcast became a digital sensation, reaching a peak of 764,389 viewers during the final bout to set a WWE YouTube record.
Critics provided varying assessments of the matches. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter gave the AAA Mega Championship match 4.75 stars, while the NXT North American Championship match received 4.5 stars. Other matches received lower ratings, such as the women's tag team match, which was rated at 2 stars.
