In short: Vanna White has been a staple of American television for decades. Since 1982, she has helped define the game show genre, becoming so synonymous with the Wheel of Fortune puzzle board that she once won a legal battle to protect her personality rights against a tech giant.

Vanna White's journey to television stardom began in the world of fashion. After studying at the Atlanta School of Fashion and Design, she competed in the 1978 Miss Georgia USA pageant. While she moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to pursue acting, her most enduring legacy began in December 1982, when she became the regular co-host of Wheel of Fortune, following a period as a substitute for Susan Stafford.

Her presence on the show is so consistent that she has appeared in nearly every episode of its modern syndicated run, which launched on September 19, 1983. This longevity earned her a Guinness World Record on May 24, 2013, for being the most frequent clapper. By that time, she had clapped an estimated 3,480,864 times, averaging roughly 606 claps per episode across 30 seasons.

White's fame has also led to significant legal precedents. In 1993, she sued Samsung Electronics after an advertisement used a robot to mimic her role of turning letters on a game show board. Although a lower court initially ruled for Samsung, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals eventually reversed the decision, and a jury later awarded White $403,000 in damages for the violation of her personality rights.

Beyond the game show set, White has balanced a diverse career. She has appeared in films like the 1981 movie Looker and the 1988 television movie Goddess of Love. She is also a published author, having released her autobiography, Vanna Speaks!, in 1987, and a business owner through her yarn brand, Vanna's Choice.
