In short: Released in 2011, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 continues the story of Papi and Chloe, now married with five puppies. When their owners face foreclosure, the canine family enters a high-stakes dog show to secure the prize money, leading to an unexpected adventure involving bank robbers and a bread factory.

Directed by Alex Zamm, the 2011 comedy Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 serves as the second installment in the franchise. The narrative picks up two years after the original film, following Papi and Chloe as they navigate the chaos of raising five puppies. While their owner, Aunt Viv, is away in the rain forest conducting medical research, the dogs stay with Sam, Papi’s owner. The domestic tranquility is disrupted when Sam discovers his parents are struggling to pay their mortgage and face imminent eviction.

To solve the financial crisis, the dogs attempt to win a cash prize at a local dog show. Papi initially secures a victory, but he is disqualified for lacking proper breeding certification, losing the title to an arrogant French poodle named Appoline. Simultaneously, the plot weaves in a subplot involving Delgado, an old friend of the family, who struggles to reconcile with his two sons. The puppies eventually stumble into a bank robbery, leading the adult dogs on a rescue mission that culminates at the Hoffman Bread Factory.

The production featured a significant turnover in its cast, with most actors from the 2008 original being replaced. Odette Annable took over the role of Chloe, while Marcus Coloma and Erin Cahill stepped into the roles of Sam and Rachel. Notably, the film marked the final screen appearance of actress Lupe Ontiveros, who played Mrs. Cortez. The project was released directly to home media on February 1, 2011, in a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack, preceding a third film in the series released in 2012.
