In short: Born into nobility on Serenno, Dooku abandoned the Jedi Order after losing faith in the corrupt Galactic Republic. As Darth Tyranus, he orchestrated the Clone Wars, manipulated the Banking Clan, and trained lethal apprentices, only to be betrayed by his master, Darth Sidious, and executed by Anakin Skywalker.

Count Dooku, also known as Darth Tyranus, began his life as a Force-sensitive child disowned by his father, Count Gora of Serenno. Taken in by the Jedi Order, he was trained by Yoda and eventually mentored Qui-Gon Jinn. Despite his high standing as a Jedi Master, Dooku grew increasingly disillusioned with the Galactic Senate's corruption and the Jedi Order's complicity. At age 60, after saving his home planet from invaders, he officially left the Order to reclaim his title as Count of Serenno.

His transition to the dark side was marked by a belief that the Republic was a bloated, corrupt bureaucracy that neglected non-Core worlds. As the political leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, he engineered the creation of the Republic's clone army and initiated the Clone Wars. Throughout the conflict, he served as the apprentice to Darth Sidious, though he secretly harbored ambitions to overthrow his master. He trained various dark side agents, including Asajj Ventress and General Grievous, while manipulating galactic events from the shadows.

Dooku's downfall was orchestrated by his own master. Palpatine, who was secretly Darth Sidious, used Dooku as a placeholder to lure Anakin Skywalker to the dark side. During the events of Revenge of the Sith, Dooku was disarmed and defeated by Anakin in a duel. Following Palpatine's urging, Anakin executed the defenseless Dooku. In his final moments, Dooku realized he had been a mere tool in Sidious's grand design, intended only to pave the way for a more powerful apprentice.
