In short: While most theme parks rely on fantasy, Futuroscope was designed to explore the future of audiovisual technology. Since 1987, it has functioned as a living laboratory for 3D, 4D, and multimedia experiences, blending architectural design with high-resolution cinematography to transport visitors into immersive digital worlds.

Located in the Vienne department of France, Futuroscope originated from a vision to create a park centered on cinematographic and audiovisual techniques. The project began with the first stone laid on December 11, 1984, by René Monory. It officially opened on May 31, 1987, featuring the Pavillon du Futuroscope and Kinémax. The park's aesthetic is defined by metal and glass structures designed by architect Denis Laming.

The park's evolution mirrors the progression of film technology. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, it introduced pioneering concepts like the Dynamique Cinéma, 360° cinema, and the first Omnimax screen. By the mid-1990s, it was showcasing IMAX 3D films and high-resolution cinema. This commitment to technical innovation is why the park houses several 3D and 4D cinemas that are unique examples in the world.

The scale of its popularity is significant. By 2005, it had reached a milestone of 30 million visitors, ranking it as a major European destination. Since its inception, it has hosted over 50 million guests. In 2024, the park underwent a rebranding to Futuroscope expérience, which included the opening of a new water park called Aquascope. It continues to host major events, including various stages of the Tour de France cycle race.

Beyond just rides, the park integrates cultural and artistic elements, such as the 1997 work of art by Toon Michiels. It balances high-tech immersion with large-scale entertainment, recently partnering with Cirque du Soleil to produce 'La Forge aux étoiles,' a show expected to perform up to 300 times annually.
