In short: Go, Dog. Go! reimagines P. D. Eastman’s classic picture book as a vibrant, animated world. Centered on the energetic inventor Tag Barker and her shy new neighbor Scooch Pooch, the series explores the daily lives of Pawston’s diverse canine residents, from celebrity racers to hat-obsessed socialites and secret martial artists.

Developed for Netflix by Adam Peltzman, the animated series Go, Dog. Go! expands upon the simple premise of P. D. Eastman’s 1961 book. Over four seasons, which premiered between January 2021 and November 2023, the show builds a complex social ecosystem within the town of Pawston. The narrative primarily follows Tag Barker, a six-year-old orange Beagador who serves as the show's central figure, appearing in every episode. Her friendship with Scooch Pooch, a reserved Terrier who recently relocated from a farm, provides the emotional anchor for the series.

The town of Pawston is populated by a wide array of specialized characters, each contributing to the town's unique culture. The Barker family forms the core of the community, with parents Maw and Paw managing blimp piloting and a doorbell store, while Grandmaw Marge and Grandpaw Mort operate a repair shop. Beyond the family, the town features eccentric figures like Lady Lydia, a Poodle famous for her extensive hat collection, and the mysterious Manhole Dog, who hides a secret identity as a master of Tail-kwondo.

Conflict in Pawston often arises from the interplay between these distinct personalities. Tag frequently contends with rivals like Frank, a scheming dog who loves nachos, and his muscle, the kindhearted but oblivious Beans. Meanwhile, other residents like the celebrity racer Sam Whippet and the harmonizing trio known as the Barkapellas add layers of prestige and performance to the town. Even the periphery of Pawston holds stories, such as Fetcher, who has remained stranded on Ball Island since puppyhood after chasing a ball, highlighting the show's commitment to building a rich, interconnected world.

The series is a collaborative effort between DreamWorks Animation Television and WildBrain Studios. By translating the minimalist spirit of the original book into a full-fledged television landscape, the creators have crafted a world where every character, from the exercise coach Beefsteak to the diner cook Wagnes, plays a specific role in the town's ongoing narrative.
