In short: Released in 2013, Go Goa Gone broke cinematic ground as India's first zombie comedy. Directed by Raj & DK, the film follows three friends whose relaxing trip to Goa turns into a nightmare after a new drug triggers a localized apocalypse.

The film's premise centers on a secluded island rave organized by the Russian mafia. During the event, a powerful new drug called D2RF is launched. The substance proves too intense for the human body, shutting down nearly every organ except the hypothalamus. This neurological malfunction leaves the users driven by a singular, primal hunger for human blood. The outbreak begins when a party guest turns into a zombie and attacks another individual. This chaos forces the survivors to seek refuge in a hilltop villa. They eventually discover that the infection has spread from the island to the mainland. This escalation forces the group to find new ways to survive the growing apocalypse.

The production was an ambitious undertaking, with approximately one-third of the filming taking place on location in Mauritius. To prepare for his role as Boris, a Russian mafioso, lead actor Saif Ali Khan studied Max Brooks' 'The Zombie Survival Guide' to understand the mechanics of the genre.

While the film earned a cult status and was praised by some critics for its pace and irreverent tone, it received mixed reviews. Some critics noted that the screenplay seemed to fizzle out halfway through, while others felt the film prioritized cleverness over a cohesive plot. Despite an official sequel announcement in 2018, and further delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a sequel is currently scheduled for release in 2025.

Financially, the film was a notable venture with a production budget of approximately ₹19 crore. It achieved a worldwide gross of approximately ₹37.82 crore, including ₹5.56 crore from overseas markets.
