The robot’s appearance is modeled after Jo Ji-ah, an inventor and the ex-girlfriend of the team's leader, Professor Hong Baek-gyun. When the actual robot short-circuits, Ji-ah agrees to impersonate the machine for a 10 million won payment, setting the stage for an unlikely emotional connection.
As Min-kyu interacts with who he believes is a robot, he begins to develop genuine feelings, eventually leading him to 'reboot' the machine to erase its memory. The deception is eventually revealed, causing Min-kyu to suffer a violent allergic reaction. Beyond the personal drama, the series explores corporate intrigue. A secret cache of data regarding Min-kyu's condition is hacked, fueling a hostile takeover attempt of KM Financial by Hwang Do-won and a foreign investor named Martin. Min-kyu ultimately thwarts this plot and uncovers evidence of past criminal activity involving the death of Chairman Park.
Despite its intricate plot, the series struggled to find a broad audience during its original broadcast on MBC TV from December 2017 to January 2018. It averaged only a 3.22% audience share, marking it as a commercial failure in its time-slot. However, the story's premise remains compelling enough to warrant international interest; in 2023, Disney+ Hotstar announced an Indian Tamil-language adaptation titled MY3. The original series concludes with the characters moving forward with their lives, including Min-kyu and Ji-ah finding a way to be together as humans after Min-kyu completes his mandatory military service.
