In short: Infinity Train is an animated anthology series where passengers navigate a bizarre, infinite locomotive to resolve deep-seated psychological issues. Each car presents a unique, fantastical environment, and travelers must confront their personal demons to earn their freedom. As their emotional burdens lighten, a glowing number on their hand decreases toward zero.

Created by Owen Dennis, the series debuted as a pilot in 2016 before launching as a full show in 2019. The narrative structure is an anthology, with each season, or Book, exploring different characters and storylines. The central premise involves a train that traverses a desolate landscape, picking up individuals who are struggling with significant life challenges. Whether it is a young girl dealing with her parents' divorce or two friends navigating a strained relationship, the train acts as a mechanism for self-confrontation and eventual healing.

The train's operations are overseen by a Conductor, a role originally held by a robot named One-One. However, the system is frequently disrupted by passengers like Amelia, who usurped control in an attempt to resurrect her deceased husband. This power struggle creates a complex backdrop for the passengers, who must navigate not only their own internal conflicts but also the train's shifting political landscape. Some groups, such as the Apex, even form cults that reject the train's intended purpose, choosing instead to hoard power and remain on board indefinitely.

Despite critical acclaim for its sophisticated writing and unique visual style, the series faced significant production hurdles. By 2020, the creator noted that the majority of the production staff had been dismissed, and the show faced uncertainty regarding its future. HBO Max executives reportedly expressed concerns that the dark, mature themes were not suitable for a younger audience. Following the release of the fourth season in 2021, which was marketed as the final installment, the series was eventually removed from streaming and digital purchase platforms, leaving its legacy as a cult classic of modern animation.
