In short: Born from a dystopian future to exterminate mutants, Nimrod is a machine capable of self-evolution and physical reconstruction. After arriving in the present, this advanced robot analyzed the timeline and decided that total destruction was unnecessary, eventually adopting a human alias and acting as a heroic vigilante in New York City.

Nimrod first appeared in 1985, created by Chris Claremont and John Romita Jr. as a descendant of the Sentinel robots. Its name is a nod to the biblical 'mighty hunter.' Interestingly, the character was a creative pivot; Claremont originally wanted to use a villain owned by Alan Moore, but avoided potential litigation by inventing Nimrod instead.

The machine's primary directive was the total extermination of mutants. However, after arriving in the present via Doctor Strange and Magik, Nimrod analyzed the timeline and decided widespread destruction was unnecessary. It recalibrated its goal to only hunting 'outlaw' mutants like the X-Men. It even adopted a human alias, Nicholas Hunter, and lived as a construction worker while acting as a vigilante hero in New York City.

Nimrod's power lies in its ability to scan, identify, and neutralize superhuman abilities while reconstructing its own body to improve its systems. It possesses 'Class 100' strength, allowing it to fight the Juggernaut. Despite its advanced nature, it remains vulnerable to elemental attacks like lightning or extreme cold.

The character's legacy is complex. In one arc, it merged with the Master Mold to become the being Bastion. In another, it was sent back in time, creating a temporal paradox. Most recently, in the 'Dawn of X' series, a new origin suggests a human coalition called Orchis created the first Nimrod Sentinels, leading to a future where the machine eventually evolves beyond human control.
