In short: Set in 2025, Earth has become a melting pot for human and alien life. When the hostile Troobian Empire threatens this fragile harmony, a specialized law enforcement agency known as Space Patrol Delta steps in to defend the planet. But when their elite team vanishes, the fate of Earth rests on unlikely recruits.

Power Rangers S.P.D., the twelfth entry in the long-running franchise, debuted on February 5, 2005. Based on the Japanese series Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, the show reimagines the acronym S.P.D. as Space Patrol Delta. The narrative centers on a B-Squad of officers—Sky Tate, Bridge Carson, and Sydney Drew—who are forced to partner with two former thieves, Jack Landors and Z Delgado, after the original A-Squad disappears while battling the invading Troobian Empire. They are eventually joined by their commander, Doggie Cruger, and an officer from the future named Sam.

The series expanded well beyond its television roots. In 2005, Jetix Magazine in the UK launched a monthly comic strip that offered a unique alternative to the show's finale. Written by Simon Furman with art by Andrew Wildman, the strip depicted a version of events where the A-Squad was brainwashed rather than corrupted, leading to a different resolution for the B-Squad. This marked the first time a comic adaptation provided a distinct conclusion to a Power Rangers season.

The franchise's reach even extended to Japan, where a dub of the American series began airing in 2011. Notably, this version featured the original Japanese cast from Dekaranger providing the voices for their American counterparts. Beyond broadcast, the series also saw a Game Boy Advance title produced by THQ, which featured diverse gameplay mechanics including racing, side-scrolling combat, and Megazord battles. The S.P.D. Rangers later returned to the spotlight in 2018, appearing in the Boom! Studios crossover event Shattered Grid, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Power Rangers television series.
