In the fourth installment of the French action franchise, a high-speed chase ensues again.
In short: Released in 2007, Taxi 4 continues the high-octane adventures of driver Daniel Morales and police officer Émilien Coutant-Kerbalec. This time, the duo faces a Belgian criminal who manipulates the Marseille police department. With a new vehicle and familiar faces, the film blends comedy and action in a classic franchise sequel.
Directed by Gérard Krawczyk, the 2007 film Taxi 4 serves as the fourth entry in the long-running French action comedy series. The narrative follows the established dynamic between taxi driver Daniel Morales, portrayed by Samy Naceri, and the bumbling police officer Émilien Coutant-Kerbalec, played by Frédéric Diefenthal. While previous films featured a Peugeot 406, this installment sees Daniel behind the wheel of a Peugeot 407. The cast also includes Jean-Christophe Bouvet returning as General Edmond Bertineau and a guest appearance by footballer Djibril Cissé.
The plot centers on a dangerous Belgian criminal held by the Marseille police. Through a series of deceptions involving the children of the main characters and an accidental self-inflicted injury by Commissioner Gilbert, the prisoner escapes. After being dismissed from the force, Émilien relies on Daniel to track the fugitive. The mission eventually involves Petra in a covert operation to recover stolen bank documents. The film's release was met with significant local interest, drawing 450,000 viewers across France on its debut, including 43,000 in Paris.
The film reached international audiences through festival circuits, including a Canadian screening at the Comedia event hosted by Just for Laughs in late July 2007. This preceded the wider general release. The franchise continued its legacy over a decade later with the release of Taxi 5 in 2018. By maintaining the core cast and the signature blend of automotive stunts and slapstick humor, the series solidified its place in French popular cinema, bridging the gap between the 2003 predecessor and the eventual 2018 sequel.
