The Edge of Sleep is a six-episode American psychological horror miniseries that explores a terrifying premise: a sudden, unexplained mass death event affecting everyone who slept during a single night. The story follows Dave Torres, a night security guard who has lived with night terrors and hallucinations since childhood due to parasomnia. As he navigates the aftermath of the tragedy, he must reconcile his personal history of sleep trauma with the external mystery of the deaths.
The production has a long evolution from digital audio to prestige television. It originated as a podcast produced by QCode in 2019, featuring Mark Fischbach as the lead character. In 2021, an agreement was reached with New Regency to adapt the property into a series, with Fischbach reprising his role. The series was filmed in Vancouver and Kamloops over the course of a month in 2021. Despite being shopped to numerous broadcasters and streaming platforms, it was eventually released on Amazon Prime Video in October 2024 before moving to Tubi in May 2025.
The narrative weaves together several complex threads, including the involvement of a somnologist specializing in dream studies, a pharmaceutical company named Cynagen, and an enigmatic group known as the "Dream People." By grounding the supernatural elements in medical themes—such as terminal illness, drug recovery, and parasomnia—the series attempts to create a high-stakes atmosphere where the protagonist's internal psychological struggles are inseparable from the external threat.
