In short: In just over two decades, a club founded in the capital of Cambodia has transformed into a regional powerhouse. By relocating and rebranding, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC moved from domestic obscurity to the brink of continental glory, proving that strategic identity shifts can redefine a sports organization's trajectory.

Founded in 1997 by General Sao Sokha, the club originally operated in Phnom Penh under the name Preah Khan Reach. Its early years were defined by a steady build toward domestic relevance, culminating in its first major trophy: the 2011 Hun Sen Cup. After a successful title defense in 2012, the club underwent a pivotal transformation in May 2013. Under the direction of Dy Vichea, the organization relocated to Svay Rieng province and rebranded as Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC.

This move proved to be a catalyst for success. In the very first season following the relocation and name change, the club secured its first Cambodian League title. This momentum continued into the 2019 season, where they secured a second league title and advanced to the AFC Cup group stage. While their first continental win against Bali United in February 2020 was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, the club maintained its competitive edge, eventually winning a third league title during the 2023–24 season.

The club's recent trajectory highlights a significant leap in continental reach. In the 2024–25 AFC Challenge League, Svay Rieng reached its first-ever continental final, falling only 2–1 after extra time to Turkmenistan's FK Arkadag. This journey from a local Phnom Penh side to a finalist on the international stage illustrates the rapid professionalization of Cambodian football and the impact of geographic and branding shifts on sporting success.

A total of 5 Hun Sen Cup trophies and 5 domestic league titles now grace the club's trophy cabinet, marking its swift rise. With a women's section also competing in the Cambodian Women's League, the organization has established a multi-tiered professional presence that serves as a blueprint for regional sports development.
