In short: Often called the finest college football squad ever, the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers did more than win; they dominated. With a punishing rushing offense and a stifling defense, they secured a second consecutive national title, leaving opponents struggling to keep pace in a season of historic margins.

The 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers, coached by Tom Osborne, achieved a level of dominance that remains a benchmark in NCAA Division I-A football. After winning their first national championship in over 20 years in 1994, the squad improved in nearly every facet to capture a second consecutive title. This success was part of a record-breaking run where Nebraska secured three national championships in just four years, including a third title for Osborne in 1997.

The team's statistical profile was staggering. Averaging 53.2 points per game, they amassed 638 points, whereas the 'Blackshirts' defence conceded just 174 points, or 14.5 per game. On average, they won by 38.7 points. Even their narrowest victory, a 35–21 win over Washington State, saw the Huskers outrush their opponents 428 to 72.

The squad boasted exceptional players like quarterback Tommie Frazier, who famously avoided being sacked throughout the whole 1995 season. The offense was bolstered by standout performances from players like Lawrence Phillips and Ahman Green. The season culminated in a 62–24 victory over No. 2 Florida in the Fiesta Bowl, a margin that was, at the time, the second largest ever between a No. 1 and No. 2 school.

Despite their overwhelming success, the season was not without minor controversy. During a 77–28 victory over Arizona State, Sun Devils coach Bruce Snyder accused Osborne of running up the score after Nebraska scored a touchdown in the final moments of the game.
