The Denver Broncos' resurgence: a winning season and a return to the playoffs
In short: After years of struggle, the Denver Broncos found their rhythm in 2024. Led by rookie quarterback Bo Nix, the team secured its first winning season since 2016 and its first playoff berth since their 2015 Super Bowl victory, marking a significant turning point for the franchise.
The 2024 season represented the Broncos' 55th in the NFL and their 65th overall. It was a year of significant transition, marked by the departure of starting quarterback Russell Wilson and the selection of Bo Nix as the team's first-round draft pick. This campaign marked the Walton-Penner family group's third year of ownership and Sean Payton's second as head coach.
The impact of these changes was immediate. With Nix at the helm, the Broncos achieved a 10–7 record, their first winning season since 2016. This success also saw the team reach the playoffs for the first time since their 2015 Super Bowl-winning campaign. Notably, it was the first time since 2015 that the Broncos recorded multiple winning streaks of three or more games.
The season was not without its hurdles. A 31–7 defeat against the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round concluded their postseason. Off the field, the team underwent a visual transformation, unveiling 'The Mile High Collection'—their first new uniform set since 1997—alongside 1977 throwback jerseys featuring royal blue 'D' helmets. Despite the momentum, the team also dealt with personnel shifts, such as assistant head coach Mike Westhoff stepping down for health reasons on November 12.
The season's highs included a dominant 34-point unanswered run against the Raiders, which snapped an eight-game losing streak against that division rival. Furthermore, Bo Nix became the first rookie quarterback in the franchise's history to secure three straight victories.
