From a 2–2 start to a historic Super Bowl championship victory
In short: The Philadelphia Eagles' 2024 campaign was a masterclass in resilience. After a turbulent start plagued by turnovers and home losses, the franchise orchestrated a massive mid-season turnaround, ultimately toppling the defending champions to secure their fifth league title.
The season began with significant uncertainty. Following the retirements of veterans Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox, the Eagles struggled early, dropping to a 2–2 record after a stunning home defeat to the Atlanta Falcons and a heavy loss to Tampa Bay. However, the team found its rhythm, winning 16 of their final 17 games and securing their fourth consecutive playoff berth.
A defensive overhaul proved decisive. Under new coordinator Vic Fangio, the unit became the league's most efficient, leading the NFL in total defense by allowing only 278.4 yards per game. The defense also recorded 41 sacks and maintained a +11 turnover differential. On the offensive side, newly acquired Saquon Barkley provided historic production, becoming just the ninth running back in NFL history to surpass 2,000 rushing yards.
The postseason was a dominant march through the bracket. After defeating Green Bay and Los Angeles, the Eagles crushed the Washington Commanders 55–23 in the NFC Championship. In Super Bowl LIX, they faced a rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs, winning 40–22. This victory made Philadelphia the only franchise to defeat a defending champion in multiple Super Bowls and the only team to avenge Super Bowl losses against multiple different opponents.
The year was also marked by franchise milestones and business shifts. The team finished with 18 total wins, tying an NFL record, and set a new postseason scoring record with 145 points. Off the field, owner Jeffrey Lurie sold an 8% minority interest in the team, valuing the organization at approximately $8.3 billion.
