In short: The 2026 EuroVolley Men marks a significant shift in the international sporting calendar. Following a major restructuring by the FIVB, this tournament will be the first European Championship held in an even-numbered year since 1958, a change designed to protect athlete health and streamline global qualification pathways.

The 2026 Men's European Volleyball Championship, the 34th edition of the tournament, will be hosted across four nations: Bulgaria, Finland, Italy, and Romania. This multi-country hosting model has become the standard since it was first utilized in 2019. While Italy will host the final in Milan, the tournament's structure reflects a broader evolution in how international volleyball is organized.

The international calendar underwent a major overhaul for the 2025–2028 period, as declared by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) on 22 June 2023. By shifting continental championships from odd-numbered to even-numbered years, the FIVB aims to reduce calendar congestion and prioritize athlete recovery. This shift means the 2026 tournament is the first of its kind in the even-numbered format since 1958.

The tournament features 24 teams, including the four co-hosts and the top eight finishers from the 2023 edition. Qualification for the remaining spots took place throughout August 2024 and 2025. The stakes are high: the winner secures a spot in the 2028 Summer Olympics, while the top three finishers qualify for the 2027 FIVB World Cup. Poland enters as the defending champions, having won the 2023 title in Rome.

Hosting logistics have seen recent shifts, particularly in Bulgaria. While the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna was originally selected, the tournament will now be held at Arena 8888 in Sofia. Such a shift comes after volleyball's popularity grew in Bulgaria following their runner-up spot at the 2025 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship.
