From Hale End to the EFL: The rise of winger Amario Cozier-Duberry
In short: Born in London, Amario Cozier-Duberry has evolved from a rejected trialist into one of English football's most promising young talents. After honing his craft at Arsenal’s academy, he has navigated a series of high-impact loan spells, earning accolades for his clinical left foot and ability to influence crucial matches.
Born on 29 May 2005, Amario Cozier-Duberry grew up in Tottenham, London. His path to professional football was not immediate; he faced rejections from several local clubs before finding his footing at Chettle Court Rangers. His breakthrough arrived after a youth tournament performance caught the attention of Arsenal, leading to a trial and his eventual permanent move to the club's Hale End academy in October 2019 at age fourteen.
During his time at Arsenal, Cozier-Duberry developed a reputation for individual brilliance. Former youth coach Jack Wilshere once described him as occasionally 'unplayable,' a sentiment supported by his prolific 2022–23 campaign where he led the U21s in goals and assists. Despite his promise, he sought first-team opportunities elsewhere, moving to Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2024. His development accelerated through loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers, where he began to translate his academy potential into senior-level impact.
His stint at Bolton Wanderers in the 2025–26 season proved particularly transformative. In October 2025, he secured both the EFL League One Player of the Month and Young Player of the Month awards. Even a significant knee ligament injury in January 2026 could not derail his momentum; upon his return in April, he immediately made his mark with a two-goal performance against Stevenage. Now on loan at Middlesbrough, he continues to draw comparisons to elite wingers like Bukayo Saka and Arjen Robben for his signature cut-inside move.
Cozier-Duberry’s journey reflects the modern pathway for English prospects, balancing academy pedigree with the physical demands of the EFL. With international experience across England’s youth ranks and a contract at Brighton extending until 2029, he remains a player to watch as he seeks to establish himself at the highest level of the professional game.
