In short: Andrew O'Keefe was once a staple of Australian breakfast television and a prominent charity ambassador. However, a series of legal battles involving domestic violence and drug offences has fundamentally reshaped his public legacy, transforming a celebrated media personality into a figure defined by ongoing judicial scrutiny.

Born in 1971, Andrew O'Keefe built a significant media career, most notably co-hosting the breakfast program Weekend Sunrise from 2005 until 2017. During this time, he also hosted popular game shows like Deal or No Deal and The Chase Australia. Outside of media, he helped found White Ribbon Australia to combat violence against women, acting as an ambassador and joining the first National Council for the Prevention of Violence Against Women during 2008.

He received major professional recognition; specifically, in January 2017, he became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) due to his charitable and television contributions. Nevertheless, the Governor-General ended this appointment in June 2025. His legal difficulties became public in 2021, following his arrest and subsequent charges for common assault and domestic violence. While a magistrate initially dismissed those specific charges in June 2021—finding he was in a hypomanic bipolar state—subsequent legal issues intensified.

Between 2021 and 2024, O'Keefe faced a succession of arrests and court appearances. These included charges for breaching apprehended violence orders, assault, and various drug-related offences, such as possession of marijuana and drug driving. In January 2024, he was sentenced to a series of community corrections orders following domestic violence-related charges. His struggles with substance abuse were further highlighted in September 2024, when he required medical intervention after overdosing on drugs at a party in Vaucluse.
