The evolution of a house: Why Bigg Boss Malayalam moved its walls
In short: For years, the Malayalam edition of Bigg Boss relied on sets in Mumbai and Chennai. Season 7 broke this tradition by constructing a dedicated house specifically for the show in Chennai. This shift marks a significant move toward establishing a permanent, localized infrastructure for the franchise.
The seventh season of the Malayalam-language reality series premiered on August 3, 2025. While the show follows a long-standing production model by Endemol Shine India and Banijay, Season 7 introduced a structural change in its physical environment. Previously, the production utilized existing sets in Mumbai and Chennai, but this edition saw the construction of a new house specifically for the Malayalam version in Chennai. This strategic move was designed to provide a dedicated space, aligning the Malayalam production with the logistical practices of other language versions of the global franchise.
The season's timeline was marked by significant delays. Originally slated for a March 2025 premiere, the launch was pushed back to June and eventually to August. These delays were attributed to various factors, including the complex selection of the diverse contestant pool and the filming commitments of host Mohanlal, who is starring in the films L2: Empuraan and Thudarum.
Despite these hurdles, the production maintained its core identity, with Mohanlal hosting for his seventh consecutive year. Visual branding also played a key role in the season's identity. The official logo was unveiled on May 21, 2025, a date chosen to coincide with Mohanlal's birthday. The design incorporates a vibrant palette of pink magenta, purple, and dark blue, featuring the iconic 'eye' symbol. Notably, it integrates seven jewel-like elements representing the season number and a stylized '7'—which also serves as a nod to the host's nickname, 'Lalettan'—embedding the host's personal brand into the show's visual DNA.
