In short: Most professional athletes follow a predictable path, but Brent Suter’s journey is remarkably academic. A Harvard graduate with a degree in environmental science and public policy, the pitcher has navigated everything from Tommy John surgery to writing children's literature.

Brent Michael Suter’s ascent to the Major Leagues began far from the professional diamond. Suter studied at Harvard University prior to his selection by the Milwaukee Brewers during the 2012 MLB draft's 31st round. There, he studied environmental science and public policy, graduating in 2012. His early baseball career included stints in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and the Cape Cod Baseball League, providing the foundation for a professional career that has spanned several MLB organizations, including the Brewers, Rockies, Reds, Angels, and Braves.

Suter's career has been defined by both remarkable highs and significant physical setbacks. In 2018, he achieved a rare feat for a pitcher, hitting a 433-foot home run off Cleveland's Corey Kluber. However, that same year, he faced a major hurdle when he underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow on July 31, 2018. His resilience was evident during his 2019 comeback, where he earned National League reliever of the month honors in September after being activated from the injured list.

Beyond the mound, Suter has leveraged his platform for community impact and environmental advocacy. He is the author of the children's book "The Binky Bandit," released in June 2022. His commitment to service earned him the 2025 Marvin Miller Man of the Year award, recognizing his work with the Reds Community Fund, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League. Representing both the Ocean Conservancy and Players for the Planet, Suter also directs the 'Protect Where We Play' programme aimed at cutting plastic use in stadiums.
