From NFL ownership to award-winning cinema: a legacy of social justice
In short: Chip Rosenbloom moved from the boardroom of professional football to the director's chair, producing over thirty films. While his name is tied to sports ownership, his creative work often centers on systemic injustice and human rights, bridging the gap between high-stakes business and advocacy.
Born in New York City in 1964, Dale "Chip" Rosenbloom entered a family legacy defined by professional sports. His father, Carroll Rosenbloom, was the winningest owner in NFL history with the Baltimore Colts and Los Angeles Rams. Following his father's death in 1979, his mother Georgia became majority owner of the Rams before moving them to St. Louis. Following her death during 2008, Rosenbloom took over as primary owner until Stan Kroenke purchased the family's stake following the 2010 season.
After training at USC Film School and gaining experience with Aaron Spelling Studios, Rosenbloom shifted into autonomous movie production in 1990. His early career included titles like Across the Tracks and Nails, but he achieved significant critical acclaim in 1997 with Shiloh, a multi-award-winning film about an abused dog. This period established his reputation for high-quality production, eventually leading him to produce over thirty films and television movies, including documentaries that tackle heavy social themes.
His work is deeply rooted in advocacy. He produced Reckless Indifference, a true story of a teenage fight resulting in murder and subsequent sentencing injustice; the film won an International Press Academy Award and is now taught in law schools. Rosenbloom also co-financed awareness campaigns to reform mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines through Families Against Mandatory Minimums. His diverse portfolio spans from Emmy-nominated historical documentaries like Intent to Destroy (2019) to composing original music for Broadway stage shows.
Today, as president of Rosenbloom Entertainment and founder of Open Pictures, he balances these roles as a filmmaker, composer, and philanthropist. His involvement with organizations like Feeding America and Earth Justice reflects a career that uses both capital and creative storytelling to address social issues.
