After leading Division II in rushing, he transitioned to the SEC, shattering records and earning comparisons to Hall of Famers. Born on September 8, 1999, Cody Schrader’s ascent began at Lutheran High School South in St. Louis, Missouri. During his high school tenure, he amassed 6,759 rushing yards and 99 touchdowns, earning multiple all-conference and all-state honors. This early success led him to Truman State University, where he became a prolific force in Division II football.
Schrader's impact at Truman was transformative. In 2021, he led the nation in rushing with 2,074 yards and 25 touchdowns, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. Over his career at Truman, he set 17 program records, including single-game and season totals for rushing yards, touchdowns, and total points. His performance earned him the title of co-offensive player of the year within the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
To find tougher competition, Schrader joined the transfer portal before walking on at the University of Missouri. His time in the SEC included historic achievements, including being the first player to post 200 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards during one game against Tennessee. He also set the Missouri single-season rushing record with 1,627 yards during a Cotton Bowl victory over Ohio State.
Schrader entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the San Francisco 49ers in May 2024. Since then, his professional career has been characterized by high volatility. After stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans, he joined the Denver Broncos, managing various practice squads and waiver claims.
