From Wyoming high school standout to NFL linebacker, the career of Logan Wilson
In short: Born in Casper, Wyoming, Logan Wilson evolved from a multi-sport high school star into a professional middle linebacker. Over a six-season NFL tenure, he became a defensive anchor for the Cincinnati Bengals before a final stint with the Dallas Cowboys, ultimately retiring from professional football in early 2026.
Wilson's path to the NFL began at Natrona County High School, where he excelled as a versatile athlete, playing multiple positions including safety and wide receiver. His high school career culminated in a perfect 12-0 season and a state championship. He continued this trajectory at the University of Wyoming, where he earned Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year honors. By the end of his collegiate tenure, he had accumulated 421 tackles, ranking fourth in school history, and demonstrated a knack for defensive playmaking with ten career interceptions.
Drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020, Wilson quickly established himself as a defensive leader. His professional impact was highlighted by his ability to force turnovers in high-stakes moments. During the 2021 season, he led the team in interceptions and played a pivotal role in the Bengals' AFC Divisional Playoff victory over the Tennessee Titans. His performance in the 2022 postseason was particularly notable; he forced a fumble against the Baltimore Ravens that resulted in the longest fumble return for a touchdown in NFL postseason history.
Despite his success, Wilson's later career was marked by shifting dynamics. After signing a four-year extension in 2023 and recording a career-best 135 tackles that same year, he faced challenges in 2024, including a season-ending knee injury. By late 2025, reduced playing time led him to request a trade. He was subsequently moved to the Dallas Cowboys, where he struggled to secure a starting role. Following his release in February 2026, Wilson announced his retirement from the NFL in March 2026, concluding a career defined by his transition from a Wyoming standout to a reliable professional defensive force.
