How a fourth-round pick rewrote the record books in 2025
In short: Colby Parkinson's journey from a high school standout to an NFL playmaker is a study in steady progression. After navigating early injuries and developmental years, he became a cornerstone of the Los Angeles Rams' offensive strategy, eventually shattering team records for production at his position.
Parkinson’s path to the NFL began with elite high school production at Oaks Christian School in California. During his senior year, he led the Lions to back-to-back Marmonte League titles while earning a spot on the USA Today All-USA first team. He committed to Stanford University in December 2015, where he spent three seasons developing his craft as a tight end before entering the 2020 NFL draft.
His professional entry was marked by significant physical hurdles. Selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round (133rd overall), Parkinson spent much of his rookie year on various injury lists. It took until late 2020 for him to see meaningful action, and he faced further setbacks in 2021 with a broken foot that sidelined him for nearly two months. These early years were essential for building the durability required for his later success.
A $22.5 million, three-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams marked a pivotal moment for Parkinson during 2024. The team's '13 Personnel' scheme, featuring several tight ends, saw him emerge as a key offensive threat in 2025. By achieving 43 receptions and 408 yards, he reached new annual milestones while securing eight touchdown catches to break the franchise record for a tight end.
Parkinson’s career reached a cinematic peak in January 2026 during the NFC playoffs. He secured a game-winning 19-yard touchdown with just 38 seconds remaining against the Carolina Panthers to clinch a Wild Card victory. His ability to perform in high-leverage moments, combined with his record-breaking production, solidified his status as one of the league's most reliable and versatile tight ends.
