From NRL premiership glory to a career defined by legal battles
In short: Curtis Scott’s rugby league career was marked by elite success, including a premiership win with the Melbourne Storm. However, his professional journey was frequently interrupted by serious legal allegations, injuries, and disciplinary issues that eventually led to his departure from the sport.
Born in Sydney in 1997, Curtis Scott emerged as a premier talent, captaining the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks' S. G. Ball Cup side to a premiership in 2015. His rapid ascent saw him sign a three-year deal with the Melbourne Storm for the 2016 season, after competing against 11 other NRL clubs for his signature. He achieved significant success early, including a premiership title with Melbourne in the 2017 NRL Grand Final against the North Queensland Cowboys. He was a standout player for the Australian Schoolboys in 2015. During that same year, he also represented the Sharks' NYC squad.
However, his career was complicated by physical and disciplinary struggles. In 2016, a broken leg sidelined him for the remainder of the season. In 2018, he was part of the Melbourne Storm team that lost the Grand Final to the Sydney Roosters. His time at the Canberra Raiders was even more turbulent; despite joining the club in late 2019, his contract was terminated in August 2020 following allegations of misconduct and a private altercation with teammate John Bateman. His tenure in Canberra was further marred by a significant infection caused by a surgical plate in his leg. This medical complication forced him to miss the final four rounds of the 2020 season.
The legal complications surrounding Scott were extensive. In early 2020, he faced charges following a police encounter in Sydney's Moore Park, though several charges were eventually dropped after bodycam footage was reviewed. Later, in 2022, he was found guilty of assault and stalking/intimidation. Most recently, reports in December 2025 indicated he faced charges following an alleged drunken car crash in Sydney on June 15, 2025, where his vehicle reportedly struck multiple trees. He also faced a three-game ban and a fine for his involvement in a nightclub fight in 2021.
