From dance assistant to Bollywood star: the versatile career of Daisy Shah
In short: Before she was sharing the screen with superstars like Salman Khan, Daisy Shah was working behind the scenes. Her journey from a local Miss Photogenic winner to a prominent actress in Hindi and Kannada cinema is a testament to her skill as a dancer and her persistence in a competitive industry.
Born on August 25, 1984, to a Gujarati family in Bombay, Daisy Shah’s path to stardom was built on technical skill. Before her acting breakthrough, she honed her craft as an assistant to choreographer Ganesh Acharya, working on film sets such as Zameen and Khakee. This foundational experience in dance eventually led to her being recognized for her grace and movement on screen.
Shah’s cinematic ascent began in earnest in 2011, when she secured the lead role in the Kannada film Bhadra. This performance highlighted her dancing abilities, a trait noted by News18. That same year, she expanded her reach by appearing as Ammu in the film Bodyguard. Her versatility was further demonstrated through various 'item songs,' including 'Neeli Lugadi' in the Hindi film Khuda Kasam, alongside Sunny Deol and Tabu.
Her transition into mainstream Hindi cinema was marked by the 2014 film Jai Ho, where she appeared opposite Salman Khan. While critics at Bollywood Hungama noted she might have limited scope in certain roles, they praised her as a terrific and graceful dancer. Following this, she appeared in successful projects like Hate Story 3 in 2015 and the commercial hit Race 3 in 2018. In 2019, she received critical praise from the Times of India for her 'earnest performance' as a sub-inspector and football coach in the Gujarati film Gujarat 11.
In 2023, Shah expanded her repertoire into television, participating in the stunt-based reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 13, where she finished in 11th place.
