In short: After a three-year hiatus caused by a heart condition, Dave Lloyd returned to amateur racing with a staggering win rate. He secured 125 victories from just 133 races, proving that even a major health setback couldn't derail his extraordinary competitive momentum.

Born on 12 October 1949, English cyclist Dave Lloyd established himself as a formidable force in the early 1970s. After starting his racing career in 1969, he achieved significant milestones including a seventh-place finish in the 1972 Milk Race and a victory at the William Tell GP, where he defeated notable riders Francesco Moser and Freddy Maertens. He also competed in the Munich Olympics before turning professional with Raleigh in 1973. He also secured a win at the William Tell GP.

Lloyd's professional career saw him secure two national 5000m pursuit championships and a national 50-mile road record. However, his momentum was interrupted in 1976 when a heart condition necessitated a three-year break from the sport. This period of recovery led to a remarkable second chapter; upon returning as an amateur, he demonstrated incredible efficiency by winning 125 of 133 races over a six-year period.

His resilience continued into the 1980s. In 1982, he swept the Points, King of the Mountains, and Overall titles at the Girvan 3-Day, defeating a competitive field including Paul Curran, Joey McLoughlin, and Jeff Williams. After a final professional stint starting in 1984, Lloyd transitioned into a career as a framebuilder for 13 years. Today, he serves as a cycling coach and is the founder of the Dave Lloyd Mega Challenge. Following his time as a framebuilder, he moved into coaching. He also established the Dave Lloyd Mega Challenge.
