From a record-breaking defensive star to a career-ending injury

David Pollack's collegiate career at the University of Georgia was nothing short of historic. Playing under coach Mark Richt from 2001 to 2004, Pollack became a three-time All-American and a two-time NCAA consensus honoree. His defensive dominance was reflected in his 36 career sacks, a Georgia school record that ranks third in NCAA history. His accolades included being named the SEC Player of the Year in 2002 and 2004, as well as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2004.
His professional ascent was equally rapid. Selected in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft, Pollack joined the Cincinnati Bengals. During his rookie season, he established himself as a starter by the sixth game, recording 4.5 sacks and 28 total tackles. However, the momentum of his career was halted on September 17, 2006, during a game against the Cleveland Browns. A tackle resulted in a broken sixth cervical vertebra, an injury that required surgery to fuse two vertebrae and the use of a halo brace.
Though initial reports in early 2007 suggested a potential comeback, the physical toll led to his retirement in April 2008. Undeterred, Pollack pivoted to media, serving as an ESPN college football analyst from 2009 to 2023. Today, he manages a diverse portfolio, including his YouTube show, See Ball Get Ball, and the Pollack Family Foundation, which provides nutritional and housing support to families in the Athens area.
