Can a footballing dynasty be sustained by a single family?
In short: In the shadow of a global superstar, Ethan Mbappé is carving his own path. While his brother Kylian captured the world's attention, Ethan is proving that talent runs deep in the Mbappé lineage, navigating high-stakes transfers and elite European competition.
Born in Montreuim on 29 December 2006, Ethan Mbappé Lottin is part of a significant footballing family. His father, Wilfrid, is a Cameroonian coach, and his mother, Fayza Lamari, was a French handball player of Algerian origin. Ethan's ascent through the ranks saw him follow the footsteps of his brother Kylian and adopted brother Jirès Kembo Ekoko, beginning his journey at local side Bondy in 2015.
His progression through the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) academy was marked by rapid milestones. After joining PSG in 2017, he made his senior team debut at just 15 years old during a friendly against Paris FC on 16 December 2022. By late 2023, he had transitioned to professional status, making his Ligue 1 debut as a substitute in a victory over Metz on 20 December 2023. His departure from PSG in June 2024 was notable, as Kylian suggested he might have stayed at the club had Ethan remained.
Seeking a project focused on growth, Ethan signed a three-year contract with Lille on 4 July 2024. He quickly adapted to the new environment, providing an assist in his debut against Reims on 17 August. Despite facing injury setbacks in late 2024 that caused him to miss matches against his brother's new club, Real Madrid, he demonstrated resilience. By September 2025, he secured a dramatic 98th-minute winning goal against Toulouse, cementing his reputation as a technical, left-footed midfielder known for his composure and intelligence.
