From LSU standout to NFL durability: the professional journey of Ethan Pocic
In short: After a standout collegiate career with the LSU Tigers, Ethan Pocic transitioned into a versatile NFL presence. Known for his ability to play both center and guard, his path through the draft and various professional rosters highlights the physical demands and high-stakes nature of professional football.
Ethan Pocic's ascent began at LSU, where he established himself as an elite collegiate talent. During his junior year in 2015, he earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors from SEC coaches. During a brilliant 2016 senior campaign, he earned first-team All-SEC honours from the Associated Press and reached the Rimington Trophy finals. He also received an invitation to the Senior Bowl, where he helped the South team to a narrow 16-15 victory. His performance during the NFL Combine included completing every required positional and combine drill.
His collegiate success translated into significant professional interest. Before the 2017 NFL draft, Pocic was ranked as the second-best center by outlets like ESPN and Sports Illustrated. He was ultimately selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round, specifically as the 58th overall pick. His rookie season in 2017 showcased his versatility; he started five games at left guard and the final six games at right guard, allowing only two sacks throughout the year. During his debut season, he earned a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Analysts also highly rated his potential, with some ranking him as the fourth or fifth best interior offensive lineman in the draft.
Pocic's career has been marked by both resilience and injury challenges. After stints with the Seahawks and the Cleveland Browns—where he signed a three-year, $18 million extension in March 2023—he joined the Baltimore Ravens on July 23, 2026, on a $3 million contract. Throughout his career, he has navigated various injuries, including back issues in 2019, knee sprains in 2021, and a season-ending torn Achilles tendon during the 2025 season. His time with the Browns included a significant injury setback when he suffered a knee injury in Week 11. He eventually signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2026, though a knee injury later placed him on injured reserve.
