The rare feat of scoring 30 points in three straight games
In short: In the high-stakes world of professional basketball, consistency is often sacrificed for explosive bursts. Yet Franz Wagner recently joined an elite fraternity of scorers who can maintain that intensity over multiple nights, mirroring a level of production rarely seen in franchise history.
Franz Wagner's ascent to NBA stardom is marked by his ability to sustain high-volume scoring. For the second time ever, he reached his third straight game of 30 points on 6 December 2024. This specific milestone places him in an exclusive club alongside only two other players in Orlando Magic franchise history: Shaquille O'Neal and Tracy McGrady.
Wagner's path to this level of production involved a deliberate transition from European leagues to American collegiate basketball. After being named the BBL Best Young Player in 2019, he turned down a professional contract with Alba Berlin to play for the Michigan Wolverines. During his tenure at Michigan, he was a standout performer, earning a spot on the 2020 Big Ten All-Freshman team and later becoming a second-team All-Big Ten selection.
His impact expanded significantly upon entering the NBA as an eighth overall pick in 2021. By his third season, he posted career highs across all major categories, including 19.7 points per game. His versatility was further highlighted on January 12, 2022, when he became the first Magic rookie forward to record 10 or more assists in a single game against the Washington Wizards.
Beyond individual scoring, Wagner has become a cornerstone of German international success. He played a pivotal role in Germany winning its first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup gold medal in 2023 and later secured a gold medal at EuroBasket 2025, where he was named to the All-Tournament First Team alongside stars like Luka Dončić.
