Created by Elena Bucaccio and Francesco Arlanch, Hotel Costiera is an English-language Italian action drama set against the stunning backdrop of the Amalfi Coast. The narrative follows Daniel "DD" De Luca, played by Jesse Williams, a former Marine who returns to Italy to serve as a fixer at a luxury hotel in Positano. The central conflict ignites when the daughter of the hotel's owner, Augusto, disappears, forcing De Luca into a high-stakes search. The plot intensifies as De Luca investigates the disappearance of Alice, the younger daughter of Augusto. He relies on Bignè, a former criminal turned bar owner, who acts as a trusted informant.
The production had a long gestation period, beginning with an announcement in mid-2023. Jesse Williams was confirmed for the cast on 27 February 2024, with filming commencing shortly thereafter in Positano and surrounding coastal areas. While the series was originally written in Italian, it was eventually translated into English for its global release on 24 September 2025. The production was previewed at several prestigious venues, including Series Mania in March 2025 and the Taormina Film Fest in June 2025. Promotional imagery for the production first surfaced in July 2024. A trailer for the series was subsequently released on 25 August 2025.
Critical reception for the series was notably polarized. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show earned a strong 89% approval rating from 9 critics. In contrast, Metacritic presented a conflicting view, assigning a 54/100 rating from 4 reviewers, signifying a mixed or average response. Despite this critical interest, the series' journey was brief; Amazon Prime Video officially canceled the show on 10 December 2025, following the conclusion of its first season. The show's cancellation occurred in December 2025. This decision followed the completion of its inaugural season.
