In short: India achieved a landmark success in Glasgow, securing fourth place in the overall medal table. With 39 medals in total, the contingent demonstrated unprecedented dominance in boxing and reached new heights in judo and para-athletics, marking one of the nation's most significant appearances since its debut in 1934.

Indian athletics reached a turning point during the Glasgow, Scotland, Commonwealth Games, which ran from 23 July until 2 August 2026. Competing in its 19th appearance since 1934, the Indian contingent arrived with 122 athletes across ten sports. This performance was characterized by significant breakthroughs, most notably in boxing, where India won ten medals—including seven golds—the highest number achieved by any single nation in the sport during these Games.

Individual achievements defined the success of the mission. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secured her third gold medal, becoming only the second Indian athlete to win three successive golds at the Games. In track and field, Gulveer Singh made history as the first Indian athlete in that discipline to win two individual medals at a single edition, taking silver in the men's 10,000 metres and bronze in the 5,000 metres. Additionally, Tejaswin Shankar earned India's first-ever Commonwealth Games decathlon medal with a bronze.

The Games were not without controversy or administrative hurdles. While the Sports Ministry initially approved a 191-member contingent, the number of athletes was reduced to 122 following several withdrawals. These included the loss of weightlifter Dilbag Singh due to quota reductions following five anti-doping violations during qualification, as well as the withdrawal of judokas Arun Kumar and Tulika Maan following failed doping tests. Furthermore, para swimmer Tejas Nandakumar was excluded on 12 July 2026 due to an outdated international classification review status.

Despite these setbacks, India saw record-breaking results in specialized disciplines. The country secured its finest results in judo by taking three medals, featuring inaugural golds for Harsh Singh and Asmita Dey. Para-athletes also reached a new milestone, securing seven medals, including three golds.
