From first-round NFL draft pick to rapper: the volatile rise and fall of Isaiah Wilson
In short: In 2020, Isaiah Wilson was a blue-chip prospect, selected 29th overall by the Tennessee Titans. Yet, his professional football career was defined more by legal battles and team suspensions than by on-field dominance. Today, the former Georgia Bulldogs standout has traded the gridiron for the recording studio.
Isaiah Terrell Wilson entered the professional spotlight as a consensus five-star recruit, ranked as the 16th highest-rated player in the class of 2017. After a standout collegiate career at the University of Georgia, where he earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2019, he entered the 2020 NFL draft. He was selected in the first round, the 29th overall pick, by the Tennessee Titans, where he was expected to compete for a starting right tackle role against veteran Dennis Kelly.
His tenure in the NFL was marked by significant turbulence. During his rookie season, Wilson’s involvement was minimal; he appeared in only one game, playing a total of four snaps. His time with the Titans was plagued by off-field complications, including a DUI arrest on September 11, 2020, and a high-speed police chase on January 7, 2021, where he reached speeds of 140 miles per hour. These incidents were accompanied by team-related issues, such as a suspension for violating team rules in December 2020 and being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list twice.
The volatility continued through 2021. After being traded to the Miami Dolphins in March, Wilson was waived just three days later following missed workouts and a late arrival for a physical. He later joined the New York Giants practice squad but was released in early 2022. Following a three-game NFL suspension in July 2023, Wilson has pivoted away from professional football entirely. He now pursues a career in hip hop under the stage name GGBowzer, having released the EP 'Layup Lines' in April 2021.
