The winger who scored on his very first touch in the Premier League
In short: Most players spend years adjusting to the speed of the English top flight. Ivan Cavaleiro didn't. After moving from the Championship to the Premier League, he scored a goal on his very first touch of the ball, a rare feat of immediate impact and clinical precision.
Cavaleiro's journey to the elite level was defined by early promise and a nomadic career across Europe. A product of the S.L. Benfica youth system, he spent his formative years between ages 13 and 18 developing his craft. By 2013, he was already making waves in the Portuguese second division, earning 'Player of the Month' honors before making his official debut for Benfica's main squad in the Taça de Portugal on October 19, 2013. This period saw him quickly transition from a youth prospect to a versatile winger capable of playing as a forward. His career took him through diverse leagues, including a high-profile move to AS Monaco in 2015 for a rumored €15 million fee. However, it was in England where he achieved significant milestones. Joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2016, he became a pivotal figure in their promotion charge, eventually being named the Fans' Championship Player of the Month in November 2017.
His ability to provide both goals and decisive passes was key to the club's ascent to the Premier League. The definitive moment of his English career occurred on September 29, 2018. Despite a career that has seen him represent Portugal at various youth levels—including a notable goal in a 5–0 rout of Germany at the 2015 European Championship—his path has been one of constant adaptation, moving from the Portuguese league to France, Turkey, and Poland before returning to his roots.
