The 7 foot 5 inch giant who transformed from a reluctant player to a defensive force
In short: He did not even enjoy basketball during his childhood. However, through massive growth spurts, Jamarion Sharp became one of the tallest living humans. Standing 7 feet 5 inches tall, he eventually transformed into a record-breaking defensive specialist, dominating the college courts with an incredible ability to block shots.
Born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 2001, Jamarion Sharp’s physical trajectory was nothing short of extraordinary. The son of a 6 ft 9 in father and a 6 ft 5 in mother, Sharp experienced a significant growth spurt following middle school. He entered high school at 6 ft 6 in, reached 6 ft 8 in by his junior year, and eventually stood 7 ft 5 in during his time at Western Kentucky.
His path to professional basketball was not linear. While Western Kentucky was his dream school, academic requirements prevented him from attending immediately after high school. Instead, he played for John A. Logan College, where he became a dominant force. During his freshman year, he averaged 3.7 blocks per game, and by his sophomore season, that figure rose to 5.3 blocks per game. His defensive prowess was so significant that he led the nation with 4.6 blocks per game during the 2021–22 season, setting a new Western Kentucky single-season record with 148 blocks.
Sharp's career has since spanned various professional landscapes, from the NBA Summer League with the Dallas Mavericks to the Baloncesto Superior Nacional in Puerto Rico. In April 2026, he made history by becoming the tallest player to ever compete in the Puerto Rican league, surpassing the 7 ft 4 in record held by Peter John Ramos. Despite the highs of defensive awards and professional opportunities, his journey has also been marked by significant challenges, including a 2024 legal incident involving an aggravated assault charge during a vehicle repossession.
