The most efficient offensive force in NBA history
In short: While most players chase high-volume scoring, Jarrett Allen has mastered a different kind of dominance. With a career offensive rating of 130.1, he holds a statistical record that no other player in NBA history has matched over at least 15,000 minutes played.
Jarrett Allen’s path to NBA efficiency began with high expectations. Ranked 15th among 2016's top prospects, the five-star talent competed for Texas before the Brooklyn Nets took him 22nd overall during the 2017 NBA draft. His professional debut on October 20, 2017, saw him become the second-youngest player to debut for the Nets, trailing only Derrick Favors. Before reaching the professional ranks, he played for St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin, where he earned two SPC championships. His collegiate career at the University of Texas saw him average 13.4 points and 88.4 rebounds per game during his freshman year.
His career has been defined by remarkable consistency and rebounding prowess. During his tenure with the Brooklyn Nets, he recorded a staggering 24-rebound game against the Houston Rockets in January 2019. After being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in January 2021 as part of a major four-team deal involving James Harden, Allen transformed the franchise's defensive identity. He and Evan Mobley drove Cleveland's improvement from a .306 win rate and sixth-worst defensive rating to a .537 win rate and fifth-best defensive efficiency. His impact on the court is often measured by his shooting precision. In the 2021–22 season, he achieved a remarkable field goal percentage of .677.
Allen's individual milestones continue to climb. In late 2023, he posted a 23-rebound game against the Dallas Mavericks, and by early 2024, he broke the Cavaliers' franchise record for consecutive double-doubles, surpassing the 11-game streaks held by Andre Drummond and Elmore Smith. Despite facing injuries, such as a distal phalanx fracture in October 2025, he remains a cornerstone of the roster, having recently secured a three-year, $91 million max contract extension in July 2024. His scoring ceiling reached new heights in February 2026, when he dropped 40 points in a victory against the Portland Trail Blazers. This followed a significant career milestone in July 2024 when he signed a massive five-year, $100 million contract with Cleveland.
