In 2001 Italy, a young man attempts to reform a criminal organization from within
In short: Giorno Giovanna, the son of a legendary villain, joins the Italian mafia Passione with a singular, ambitious goal: to become a Gang-Star and end the sale of drugs to children. His journey through the criminal underworld is a high-stakes battle for control, morality, and the soul of an organization.
Set in 2001, Golden Wind follows Giorno Giovanna, a 15-year-old pickpocket who possesses the unique morality of the Joestar bloodline despite being the illegitimate son of Dio Brando. Giorno wields a Stand called Gold Experience, which grants him life-themed powers like healing and organic transformation. His quest begins when he joins Passione, a powerful mafia group, and aligns himself with Bruno Bucciarati, a capo who shares his vision of reforming the organization from the inside.
The narrative escalates when the team is tasked with protecting the boss's daughter, Trish Una. Upon discovering the boss intends to kill her to protect his own identity, Bucciarati’s team turns against him. The conflict spans Italy, leading them to Sardinia and eventually Rome. Along the way, they face La Squadra Esecuzioni, a rogue group of assassins, and navigate the complex, shifting loyalties of the mafia hierarchy. The stakes are personal and existential, involving the mysterious Stand Arrow, which can evolve Stands into powerful Requiem forms.
The climax centers on the battle against the boss, Diavolo, whose Stand, King Crimson, allows him to manipulate time. The conflict results in heavy losses for the team, including the deaths of Narancia Ghirga and Leone Abbacchio. Ultimately, Giorno uses the Arrow to evolve his Stand into Gold Experience Requiem, trapping Diavolo in an infinite death loop. By the end of the series, Giorno succeeds in his mission, taking control of Passione with the support of his surviving allies, Mista and Polnareff, to reshape the organization's future.
The anime adaptation, produced by David Production and directed by Naokatsu Tsuda, Yasuhiro Kimura, and Hideya Takahashi, aired from October 2018 to July 2019. It remains a significant entry in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series, noted for its distinct setting and the evolution of the Stand mechanics introduced in earlier parts. The series was later dubbed for English audiences, though production was briefly delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
