In short: Judy Geeson’s career spanned decades, moving from the charm of 1960s British television to the gritty intensity of American horror. Whether playing a Regency heiress or a character in a Rob Zombie slasher, her versatile journey reflects the evolving landscape of global screen performance.

Born in Arundel, Sussex, on 10 September 1948, Judith Amanda Geeson began her professional journey as early as 1957, making her stage debut as a child. Her career took flight in the early 1960s, following an appearance in the series The Probation Officer in July 1962. By the mid-1960s, she had secured a regular role in the BBC soap opera The Newcomers, which she played from 1965 to 1967.

The late 1960s and 1970s marked a period of significant cinematic and television expansion. Geeson transitioned to major film roles in 1967 with To Sir, with Love and Berserk!, followed by a string of notable titles including 10 Rillington Place (1970) and the John Wayne film Brannigan (1975). Her television work was equally varied, ranging from the science fiction series Star Maidens (1976) to the beloved costume drama Poldark, where she portrayed heiress Caroline Penvenen between 1975 and 1977.

After relocating from London to Los Angeles in 1984, Geeson’s career entered a new chapter in American television. She became a familiar face to US audiences as the character Maggie Conway in the sitcom Mad About You, a role she held from 1992 to 1999. Later, she appeared in Gilmore Girls in 2002 and returned to the horror genre in the 2010s, appearing in Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem (2012) and 31 (2015).

Beyond the screen, Geeson’s legacy includes prestigious stage work with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1973, playing Lavinia in Titus Andronicus and Viven 532 in Section Nine. Her life and career have been marked by a persistent ability to reinvent herself across different continents and genres.
