From auto parts salesman to country star: the rapid rise of Kameron Marlowe
In short: Before he was a fixture on country radio, Kameron Marlowe was selling car parts in North Carolina to support his family. A chance discovery on YouTube propelled him onto a national stage, transforming his local gigging career into a major label signing that would eventually yield his first gold record.
Born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, in 1997, Kameron Marlowe’s musical journey began in childhood, influenced by his grandfather’s love for country radio during hunting and fishing trips. By age 10, he was singing in church, eventually serving as a worship leader. His early musical experience extended to high school, where he performed in a local band until his 2015 graduation. However, his path took a pragmatic turn in 2017 when his mother suffered a degenerative disc injury. To assist with family finances, Marlowe left college to work as an auto parts salesman for General Motors, balancing his professional responsibilities with local performances.
His transition to the national spotlight occurred unexpectedly while he was still working in the auto industry. A talent recruiter for the television series The Voice reached out after discovering his performance videos on YouTube, offering him a fast track to the show's live auditions. Marlowe debuted on the program in September 2018. During his tenure, he was coached by Blake Shelton and Adam Levine before his elimination in November 2018. This experience served as a catalyst, prompting his move to Nashville, Tennessee, to focus on songwriting.
Marlowe’s independent efforts in 2019, specifically the release of his debut single 'Giving You Up,' gained significant traction. By April 2020, the track had accumulated over 15 million on-demand streams, leading to a management deal with AMG and a songwriting contract with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. His momentum culminated in June 2020, when Sony Music Nashville announced he had signed with the Columbia Nashville imprint. The success of his early work was solidified in September 2021, when 'Giving You Up' became his first song to receive RIAA gold certification, marking a definitive shift from his previous life in the automotive sector.
