In short: Juzo Ogami was the Z.O.O. syndicate's most feared assassin, known as the Demon's Left Hand. But after a bizarre wasp sting regressed his body to age 13, he was forced into a new mission: infiltrate a middle school. Now, he must balance lethal underworld duties with the complexities of adolescence.

Created by Tadatoshi Fujimaki, Kill Blue follows the life of 39-year-old Juzo Ogami, whose career as a prized hitman is derailed by a genetic mishap. While targeting criminals linked to Mitsuoka Pharmaceuticals, Ogami is stung by a mysterious wasp that forces his body back to his early teenage years. Stripped of his adult stature and unable to perform his usual duties, he is reassigned by his syndicate to protect the daughter of the head of Z.O.O. by enrolling in her school. What begins as a reluctant undercover operation evolves into an unexpected appreciation for the school environment, which Ogami never experienced in his youth.

The narrative navigates the friction between Ogami's lethal expertise and his new social reality. He must contend with Noren Mitsuoka, the heiress to the pharmaceutical company that may hold the secret to reversing his condition, while simultaneously managing a cast of classmates who are often more than they seem. The school is populated by elite students, including members of the 'Unicorn' group, and even fellow assassins from rival organizations like JARDIN. These interactions create a unique blend of high-stakes action and school-life tropes, leading critics to compare the series to a more violent take on detective classics.

The manga, which ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from April 2023 to September 2025, gained significant recognition, ranking in the top ten at the 2024 Next Manga Awards. Its success led to a 2026 anime adaptation produced by Cue, which aired on TV Tokyo. While some reviewers noted the potential for awkward dynamics regarding the protagonist's age, the series has been praised for its distinct premise and character work. With a second season already announced, the story of the middle-aged man trapped in a student's body continues to expand its reach.
