In short: Before he was known as 'Moose' in the NFL, Muhsin Muhammad was a soccer player in elementary school. His journey from Lansing, Michigan, to becoming a two-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl touchdown scorer is a testament to remarkable athletic versatility and professional longevity.

Born Melvin Darnell Campbell Jr. in Lansing, Michigan, on May 5, 1973, Muhammad underwent a significant identity shift at age four when his father converted to Islam, leading to his name change. His athletic foundation was built at Waverly High School, where he was a multi-sport standout, earning letters in football, basketball, and track, and serving as an all-state linebacker and running back.

After a breakout collegiate season in 1995 at Michigan State University under coach Nick Saban, Muhammad entered the NFL via the 1996 draft. Selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round (43rd overall), he quickly established himself as a premier receiver. His career peaked in 2004 when he led the league with 1,405 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns, earning first-team All-Pro honors.

Muhammad's career was marked by both high-stakes achievement and personal complexity. Alongside Ricky Proehl and Jerry Rice, he is among just three athletes to have recorded a Super Bowl touchdown for two separate clubs. Beyond the field, his tenure was marked by a variety of experiences, including a 2003 arrest for misdemeanor offenses and a period of public tension with the Panthers organization following a contract dispute in 2005.

After a 14-season career ended, Muhammad entered finance, serving as co-founder and managing director for Axum Capital Partners, a private equity firm. He remains active in philanthropy through his M2 Foundation for Kids, focusing on the development of children.
