Saquon Barkley claims the top spot in the NFL's latest elite rankings
In short: The NFL has unveiled its definitive list of the league's most impactful stars. While the rankings celebrate individual brilliance, they also highlight a growing divide in team depth, as several storied franchises found themselves entirely unrepresented in this year's prestigious selection.
The NFL Top 100 Players of 2025 marks the fifteenth season of this annual tradition, a period used to recognize the most outstanding performers across the league. The 2025 edition officially commenced on June 30, 2025, and ran through September 1, 2025, serving as a summer showcase of the talent heading into the new season. This annual honors program has now reached its fifteenth season of operation. It serves as a prestigious summer window for fans to evaluate the league's highest caliber of talent.
At the pinnacle of the list is Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. His ascent to the number one ranking represents a significant milestone, marking the first time in his professional career that he has been recognized as the premier player in the league. The Philadelphia Eagles star achieved this career-high distinction through his recent performances. This ranking reflects his status as the premier talent heading into the upcoming campaign.
However, the rankings also reveal a stark disparity in talent distribution across the NFL. While the list celebrates the league's elite, it simultaneously highlights the absence of talent in certain rosters. Notably, five different teams failed to secure a single player on the list, with the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts among those left without a representative in the top 100. The lack of representation for these specific franchises underscores a period of rebuilding for several organizations. It is a notable statistic for the league's competitive landscape.
