In short: In 2008, O.J. Simpson stood before a jury for a crime that mirrored the spectacle of his 1995 acquittal. While the first trial was a national media phenomenon centered on murder, the second was a calculated, private operation to reclaim stolen memorabilia—ending in a conviction that finally led to prison.

The 2007 Las Vegas incident began when memorabilia dealers informed Simpson that a trove of his items was being held in a hotel room. Claiming the items were stolen from him, Simpson and a collaborator devised a plan to confront the dealers. Simpson recruited wedding guests to join the operation, which took place at the Palace Station hotel. The group entered the room at 7:38 pm on September 13, 2007, where they took the items at gunpoint.

The legal fallout for this incident was swift. Simpson was arrested on September 16, 2007, and initially held without bail. While he admitted to taking the items, he denied breaking into the room or carrying weapons. On October 3, 2008—exactly 13 years to the day after his acquittal in the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman—a jury found him guilty of all 12 charges, including armed robbery and kidnapping.

The sentencing reflected the gravity of the new charges: a 33-year prison term with a minimum of nine years. This marked a stark contrast to his 1995 experience, where he was acquitted of murder despite the intense media scrutiny and the 'trial of the century' atmosphere. Simpson was eventually granted parole in July 2017 and received an early discharge in December 2021. This second conviction served as a definitive legal conclusion to a career defined by both athletic greatness and enduring controversy.
