From seventh-round underdog to Super Bowl champion: the rise of Quandre Diggs
In short: Most NFL experts projected Quandre Diggs as a late-round flyer. Yet, the former Texas Longhorn transformed from a sixth-round selection into a versatile defensive force, eventually securing a Super Bowl title with the Seattle Seahawks in 2025.
Diggs' journey to professional stardom began with a highly decorated high school career at Angleton. A versatile athlete, he earned honors in football, track, and basketball, eventually being ranked as the top cornerback in the nation for the Class of 2011. This potential translated to the collegiate level at the University of Texas, where he became a standout defensive back under coaches Mack Brown and Charlie Strong.
During his tenure with the Longhorns from 2011 to 2014, Diggs demonstrated remarkable consistency. He was a consensus Freshman All-American and led the team in pass breakups for three consecutive seasons. Upon finishing his university tenure, he sat jointly in ninth place for school interceptions (11) and pass breakups (37).
His professional path was far from guaranteed. Although most scouts predicted a seventh-round selection, the Detroit Lions took him during the 2015 NFL draft's sixth round. His talent truly flourished after he shifted from playing cornerback to safety. After stints with the Lions and the Tennessee Titans, he returned to the Seattle Seahawks, where he ultimately reached the pinnacle of the sport by winning Super Bowl LX.
Diggs' career is defined by this ability to adapt. Whether recording a pick-six against the Jets in 2018 or forcing a fumble against the Eagles in 2019, his ability to impact multiple phases of the game—defense, special teams, and even returning punts—made him an invaluable asset on the field.
